About DIYDollar

Making personal finance accessible, practical, and maybe even a little bit interesting

Zach Moore and Family

Hi, I'm Zach Moore

And I'm one of those oddballs who would rather discuss compound interest than fantasy football stats.

My Finance Journey

My oldest brother got me hooked on personal finance when I was fresh out of college. Since then, we've maintained a weekly ritual of exchanging financial articles and videos, often calling each other just to dissect the latest financial news, nerd out over retirement tax mitigation strategies, etc.

Today, I'm married to an incredible woman who tolerates my financial nerdiness (Yes, my wife is a saint—I even discussed our family budget on our honeymoon) and we're raising three wonderful tax credits with a fourth on the way. Growing up as the fourth child in a family of five siblings taught me the value of resourcefulness, and now I'm passing those lessons on to my own family, and hopefully to you as well.

Professional Background

I hold a degree in International Business with a minor in Finance and Mandarin. Over the past 14 years, I've worked for an automotive supplier, progressing through roles in Program Management, Quality, and currently serving as a Product Compliance System Manager to ensure our products comply with regulatory requirements. I've also served as the financial manager for a multi-million dollar consulting firm (full disclosure: it was a favor to a family member who owned the business, but I learned a tremendous amount from the experience).

What I'm most proud of, however, is the personal finance program I developed and taught at my workplace. I volunteered to lead lunch-and-learn sessions covering budgeting, retirement planning, investing, estate planning, and navigating financial conflicts between partners. Seeing colleagues gain confidence in their financial decisions reminded me why I love teaching.

Why DIYDollar?

After investing hundreds of hours into creating that workplace finance program, I realized these resources could help far more people. That's what inspired DIYDollar—a place where anyone can access practical financial education and tools.

📚 Learning Modules

I've transformed my classroom content into digestible lessons that break down complex financial concepts into plain English. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your strategy, these modules meet you where you are.

🧮 Interactive Tools

I got frustrated with online financial calculators that lacked the features I needed or weren't truly interactive. So I built my own and made them freely available. These aren't just calculators—they're planning tools designed to give you real insights.

📋 Guides & Assessments

Through countless conversations with coworkers, I've learned that many people struggle with financial alignment in their relationships or feel overwhelmed by major money decisions. I've created practical guides and assessments to help couples get on the same page and individuals navigate pivotal financial choices with confidence.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Resources for Parents

As a parent, I'm constantly thinking about the values I want to instill in my children. I want them to understand the value of a dollar, appreciate delayed gratification, and avoid the financial mistakes I've made—all while still enjoying their childhood. That's why I've developed age-appropriate materials to help parents teach financial principles without the lectures.

My Goal

Personal finance doesn't have to be intimidating or boring. My mission is to make it accessible, practical, and maybe even a little bit interesting. Whether you're building your first budget or planning for retirement, I'm here to help you take control of your financial future—one DIY decision at a time.
